#FIRSTLikeAGirl is a powerful movement redefining the culture of STEM. It’s about showing the world that girls belong in innovation, engineering, leadership and that their voices matter. Through stories of women and girls thriving in FIRST, this movement inspires others to rise above cultural barriers, chase their dreams, and take their place in shaping the future of science and technology.

Leading this revolution in South Africa is Yemira, the nation’s first-ever #FIRSTLikeAGirl Ambassador for the 2025–2026 season. With her bold vision and creative drive, Yemira is lighting the path for young women across the country, empowering them to dream bigger, build fearlessly, and transform the face of STEM for generations to come.

Intiatives

Socks

Turning awareness into action, our team designed our very own #FIRSTLikeAGirl socks, sponsored by Dragonfly Tri, to promote female participation in STEM. Sold at Regionals and Nationals, all proceeds were donated to the WAAW Foundation while also supporting our ongoing outreach initiatives to create a lasting impact in our community and beyond.

Tiaras

After the INTO THE DEEP season, our team was inspired to start the Tiara Movement in South Africa. Using Autodesk Fusion 360, we designed and 3D-printed clip-on tiaras that attach to safety glasses, celebrating femininity and showing that being feminine is not a barrier to competence but can be embraced while excelling in engineering, robotics, and leadership.

Presentations

At every single competition hosted in the Western Cape, we ran presentations on #FIRSTLikeAGirl and its importance. These sessions raised awareness, encouraged inclusion, and highlighted the impact of girls in robotics.

FLAG circles

FLAG Circles hosts peer-led, 6-person "Circuits" for teen girls and female robotics coaches in Western Cape. By bridging technical labs with emotional support, we create a global network where women in STEM solve challenges and grow together.
